NøMa: What was the inspiration behind this design?
MA: I usually have an idea of a concept or a motif, but it usually evolves while im working on it. In this case the idea was to use some of the concepts i saw at this exhibition of the art collections of the medicine historic library in Stockholm but it turned out completely different than I expected.

Briefly, what was your process?
First I had the idea of a face made of stuff. I started out by sketching the composition. I had the eyes, the sissors, the metronome and the razor blade figured out from the start, the rest of the stuff came along as i was working on it. For example the Lego figures is just there because my son happened to have left some Lego on my desk. The last thing I added was all the dots and stars, just because it looked a little bit to empty. During the process I took lots pictures of the drawing with my cellphone, it's a good way to get some perspective of
the drawing.

What was it like working with Fever Ray?
Working with Karin(Dreijer) and her management was really easy. Karin and I both rented office space at some mutual friends publishing co’s office. She saw some of my work and asked me if I was interested in doing the album art for her solo project. Karin is a big fan of graphic novels and she wanted to have a illustrated cover in black and white. She also wanted a spooky feel, longer hair and she wanted to shoot some kind of beam from her hands. I took some reference images and started sketching. Karin was working with the music at the time I was working on the artwork so we didn’t talk much. She OK’d everything I showed her and when I showed her the finished peice, she just said ”perfect”. So she was really easy to work with. For the 12” singles, i just had contact with her management people and I guess that Karin told them to OK all my ideas. They were great to work with too.

Where are you located?
I live and work in Gnesta a small town on the countryside one hour south of Stockholm, Sweden. We moved here from Stockholm two years ago and im really happy about it.

How would you describe your style in five words or less?
Over worked and under paid.

What’s your favorite joke?
A Blonde walks in to a library.
Blonde: - One Big Mac menu please.
Librarian: - This is a library.
Blonde: - Oh Sorry, (whispers) one big mac menu please.
Haha!

What are you currently working on?

Yeah i’ve just finished some patterns or a underwear company here in Sweden, and im currently working on a series of skateboard graphics for Sweet skateboards which is one of europes biggest skateboard companies. And there’s a new issue of UP-mag comming up soon.
