Hello from Nothing Major
Welcome to Nothing Major, an online journal exploring new visual culture, brought to you by the folks at Pitchfork.
Hello!
In recent years, we've seen many things re-shape the creative and visual realms of our lives. Among these are an explosion in the creation of and interest in aesthetic possibilities via the web, a renewed interest in locally and responsibly crafted goods, and the emergence of e-commerce as a viable outlet for individuals to market their own ideas. The Internet has enabled individuals to explore and unite in new creative movements and access the tools to design, make and market their own goods—it's also given the savvy consumer dizzying options for refining the visual aspects of their own lifestyle.
At Nothing Major, we will do our best to help fellow enthusiasts navigate the online world of design, style, art and craft by featuring our own daily finds in our journal and features, and by hosting a selection of carefully curated and often exclusive items in our online shop. And unlike most publications that focus on the seasonal cycles of the fashion industry and promote style through items of clothing you could never afford—we aim to have our feet firmly planted in the real world.
We’ll be publishing observations on style, fine art, photography, textiles, technology, architecture, graphic design, interiors, video, furniture, accessories, as well as pieces with an historical perspective on design and creativity. We love the bedroom GIF-makers, the resurgent craftsmen, the by-hand-typographers, vintage album cover aficionados, upstart brands as well as unsung classics, and amazing underdog projects looking for funding.
In short, we are collectors and advocates of aesthetic integrity. We believe that exciting ideas and collaboration with artists whose creative outlook both inspires and surprises is something worthy of being shared. And just like our name implies, we're not going to take ourselves too seriously. Why should we?
xoxo
